About Your Guide – Daiichiro Tashiro
Your guide to the hidden heart of Kumamoto & Kyushu
Why I Became a Guide
In 2021, I moved from Tokyo to a small village called Minami Aso, located inside one of the world’s rare inhabited calderas—yes, a community living inside a massive ancient volcano!
This peaceful region is part of Kumamoto Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu, Japan’s southwesternmost main island. Kyushu is known for its volcanic landscapes, natural hot springs, rich history, and deeply rooted traditions—but for many international travelers, it’s still an undiscovered gem.
What I Want to Share with You
Since settling here, my biggest dream has been to share the real beauty of Kyushu with people from all over the world—not just the scenery, but the stories, the people, and the soul of this land.
My tours are never just about “going to famous places and taking pictures.”
I want you to feel Japan—its history, its customs, and why certain places are sacred or beloved to the people here.
I also do my best to create moments for meaningful exchange between guests and locals, whether that’s a quick chat, a shared meal, or a moment of laughter.
My Background
Before becoming a guide, I worked as a writer✍, video creator🎥, and manga translator📖. I’ve always loved telling stories and bridging cultures.
I graduated from a university in the U.S., lived in Tokyo for over 10 years, and speak both English and Japanese.
Things I Love
I’m also a huge fan of music, film, anime, sports, games, art, and literature.
Whether you’re into Studio Ghibli or samurai history, I’m always up for a great conversation.
